Translate your site into any number of languages with your own Google key. Language URLs, hreflang, human review and block themes. No subscription.

== Description ==

Upline Translate turns one WordPress site into several language versions, at their own URLs (/es/, /fr/, /de/…), without duplicating pages.

* **Your key, your bill. No subscription.** Connect your own Google Cloud Translation key. Google includes roughly 500,000 free characters a month per billing account, which covers most small sites.
* **Unlimited languages.** Add as many as you like.
* **Translate once, cache forever.** Every string is stored in your own database. Only new or changed text is sent again, and your translations stay with your site.
* **Humans have the last word.** Review and edit any string; links and formatting show as simple numbered markers, so nobody edits raw HTML. Approved text is never overwritten.
* **Built for block themes.** Headers, footers, patterns and template parts translate with no per-block setup. Includes a Language Switcher block (inline, dropdown or list).
* **Real SEO.** Language URLs, hreflang with x-default, translated titles and meta descriptions, and a sitemap for every language.
* **Spend guards.** Background translation, monthly and per-page character caps, and nothing is sent until an administrator approves it.
* **Test without a key.** The Pseudo engine produces accented, 35% longer text so you can check layouts before translating for real.

= Upline Translate Pro =

A separate one-time purchase, [Upline Translate Pro](https://theupline.co/translate/), adds WooCommerce support (cart, checkout and customer emails in the shopper's language), DeepL and self-hosted AI models, translated URL slugs, and CSV export/import for human translators. It uses the same settings and translations, so switching keeps everything.

= External services =

When you enable and approve it in Settings, this plugin sends your site's public page text to Google Cloud Translation. Nothing is sent until an administrator checks the approval box. The Pseudo and Manual engines never send data anywhere.

* **Google Cloud Translation**: sends page text and the target language to translation.googleapis.com when "Google Cloud Translation" is the selected engine. [Terms](https://cloud.google.com/terms), [Privacy](https://policies.google.com/privacy).

== Frequently Asked Questions ==

= Who pays for translation? =

Whoever owns the API key. The free Google allowance is per billing account, so sites sharing one billing account share one allowance. The plugin itself is free and never charges per word.

= How many languages can I add? =

As many as you like.

= How do I keep a word from being translated? =

Add it to the Glossary, or add the class `notranslate` to a block (Advanced → Additional CSS class(es)).

= What happens when I edit a page? =

Only the sentences you changed are translated again, and they appear under Needs review. Everything else keeps its approved translation.
